Summertime is always a beautiful time to take photos.

Sunsets over the lake, birds flitting about, wildflowers blooming in bright colors — photography opportunities are endless.

This season, the Dickinson County Nature Center is looking for more nature-related photos for its bi-annual photography contest, whether it be a picture of a pollinator, a bird, a sunset or a deer. Entries are now being accepted, with a deadline of Sept. 1, and all ages are invited to submit their best nature shots.

Images must have been taken in the past year but are not limited to Dickinson County locations. Each photo should highlight the diversity of life on Earth, including wildlife in its natural habitat, plant life, weather, landscapes and seasons.

“We’re always excited to see the diversity of photos that come in,” said Kiley Roth, community relations coordinator for the Dickinson County Conservation Board. “We’ve had everything from a photo of lionesses to macro flower photos to photos of turbulent weather. It’s so fun seeing the photos come in for the contest twice per year.”

Photographs are due by Sept. 1 and will be classified into three age groups: 13 and younger, 14-18 or 19 and older. All submitted images will be on display at the nature center through April.

Winners in each age group will be notified via e-mail by Sept. 15. Their images will be featured prominently in the photography display at the Dickinson County Nature Center, as the nature center’s October Facebook cover photo and on the nature center’s website. Winners will also receive a $5 gift certificate to the Nature Store at the nature center.

“Whether amateur or professional, we have so many talented photographers in Dickinson County and beyond who enter our contest,” Roth said.
