Register for the first Run the Bend 5K

Lace up your running shoes and head out to the country for the first Run the Bend 5K Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Horseshoe Bend Wildlife Area.

“We want people to experience the beauty of this county park during this fun cross country run,” said Kiley Roth, community relations coordinator for the Dickinson County Conservation Board.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 17, and the run will commence at 11 a.m. Participants will begin on the north side of the park by the summer camp sites and then will head off along mowed trails for a 3.1-mile run through autumn trees. Cross the Little Sioux River via a foot bridge and end near the tubing hill shelter on the south side of the park.

“Much of the time, runners head out on paved trails through developed areas, but with this run, participants will enjoy beautiful scenery, some rolling hills and hopefully even some wildlife along the way,” Roth said. “There won’t be any winners or losers; all runners will just get to experience a beautiful new place to challenge themselves.”

Pre-register for the Run the Bend 5K on our event registration page (click here) by Nov. 3. The cost is $15 per person and includes a blaze orange T-shirt as well as bottled water and bananas after the race. After Nov. 3, the cost will increase to $20 per runner, and late registrants will also not receive a T-shirt. Registrations the day of the event will cost $20.

“This event is something completely new for the Dickinson County Conservation Board, and we’re excited to offer this event that will get people to a park they may not have explored before,” Roth said. “Many people have been to Horseshoe Bend but have never gone deep into the park via the trail system, and the Run the Bend 5K is a great opportunity to do so.”
