Spring Run Shooting Range fundraiser

As many of you have heard over the past few months, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Dickinson County Conservation Board have been working updating the Spring Run Shooting Range.

Last winter the Dickinson County Conservation Board completed a needs assessment, and the Spring Run range was one of the top projects that was brought to the table. So since then a group of individuals came together and developed a plan and layout of an upgraded shooting facility. All of the ground work has been laid and now it is our time to ask you, as the public, for some help.

The cost of the project is approximately $64,000 to complete. So far through the I-DNR, grants, and some non-profit donations, we have made secured $45,000 for the project. However, we are still coming up short, so we are requesting the public to please make a donation to the Spring Run Shooting Range renovation. Each donation helps us move forward on this project to provide a clean and functional facility.

Here is some of the information that people have been asking about the range: Yes, the tubes will no longer be part of the shooting facility, and if you have ever shot there before I am sure you understand the removal of the tubes. There will be an archery area located on the north side of the pistol range, which is where trap is currently shot. The trap range will move to the far south end of the range with three throwing areas. There will be three distance ranges for handguns and long guns with multiple shooting benches at each distance.

Another improvement is the area will be video monitored from a live feed that is recorded. This will help in eliminating misuse of the range and trash at the site. Also, there will be a shade shooting structure where you will be able to sit at benches and shoot. When this is completed this will be a great improvement, and the range will be available to each one of you for years to come.

The time frame to have this project completed is the summer of 2016. We have placed the plans and pictures on the website at dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com. Please mail donations to Dickinson County Nature Center, 2279 170th Street, Okoboji, IA 51355. You may make checks out to the Dickinson County Conservation Board.

Hi Kiley …. appreciate the quick response. I’m clear on how to use the PayPal link. I just was curious if it was possible to earmark funds donated that way (thru PayPal) rather than requiring a check to be written or in some other fashion. Just want to know how to encourage the users of the range who I know to participate in the public funding raising component.

There is a spot after choosing donation amount and logging in that allows for a “note” or “Add special instructions to the seller.” If you click it, a box for notes appears.

Can we use your PayPal link to contribute AND earmark the contribution to go towards the completion of the Spring Run Shooting Range?

      John,

Yes you can. Once you fill out the contribution, there will be a link you can click that says “add note to seller.” Just click on then and you can earmark what the donation is for! Thanks for your interest!

Any updates on the range upgrade to offer? I appreciate the answer to the PayPal question.

We have not had any updates from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as of yet. I’m sorry if we missed a question — what can I help with about PayPal?
